Managing director
SEED Foundation
London, UK

I ran a product design consultancy in Milan until 1985. Alongside my product work I initiated and ran a number of initiatives tackling social and environmental issues such as recycled plastic, water and dog fouling. I moved to London in 2004 to work for the Design Council, where I explored the opportunities for designers to generate profit through the creation of social enterprise. I became Head of Sustainability in 2006, writing a paper identifying design’s role in the sustainable development agenda.
I left the Design Council in late 2007 to set up SEED Foundation, whose aim is to encourage the use of design to support and create social enterprises. Our first proof of concept design-led enterprise, HiRise Gardens, is currently underway. I also work part time as senior design tutor for Design London, a new partnership between Imperial Business School and the Royal College of Art.
